The current elected Chairman of the EDP Region is Stephen Hoskins of Amec Foster Wheeler Energy Ltd, who is supported by ECITB Regional Account Manager Phillip Jefferies, Account Manager Dawn Thompson and Regional Administrator Louise Symonds.
The number of companies in the Region grew in 2015 to 43 and we warmly welcome the newly inscope company Jee.
Over 4400 learners were trained within the Region in 2014. This training came in a range of forms. The main areas were Project Management specialised courses and qualifications, Engineering Design Software courses and Higher Education courses. There was a significant increase in the 3 day Estimating & Methodology and Practice course which was developed by the ECITB after the need was raised with the EDP Region. The new Project Document Manager's course, which started being delivered in 2013, saw a high level of support accross the Region, with excellent feedback.
The ECITB Project Management competition (historically known as the ACTIVE Cup) is run twice yearly by the ECITB and Cranfield SoM in Bedford, as part of a programme of project management training. The competition, which comprises of 12 teams of 5 delegates, receives a high level of support from companies within the Region. January 2015's competition was fully subscribed with all 12 teams booked well in advance.
The Region continually supports a number of careers events thoughout the year to advertise the Engineering Construction Industries and the opportunities within it. The events attended range from large national events to more localised events. The Region assists inscope companies with the recruitment of apprentices and graduates. Details of upcoming careers events through 2015 are listed below.

The ECITB Project Management Competition - Successfully demonstrating ACTIVE Principles
The Project Management Competition, historically known as The ACTIVE Cup, is one of ECITB's flagship events. The competition has been running for an impressive 18 years and is run twice a year as part of a programme of project management training. Twice a year up to 12 teams, comprising of 5 members per team, are entered by employers from the engineering and construction industry to enhance the skills of their employees, through the management of a computer simulated fixed price construction project. Over the course of the three day event, the teams receive tutorials before being asked to demonstrate an understanding of project management processes thoughout the cycle of the project. This requires showing an understanding of the relationship between, costs, schedules, cash flow, project risk management, commercial awareness, personal organisation and behaviour.
The winning team is judged to be the one making the most profit against their initial bid price and in the judgement of the adjudicators, pays the most heed to and operates in accordance with the ACTIVE principles.
At least £250 billion is expected to be invested in new projects over the next decade. The ECITB has a focused effort on ensuring project management skills are delivered to secure a workforce to deliver essential infrastructure projects across all engineering construction sectors, including new nuclear and renewable power systems and engineering projects in oil, gas, chemicals and refining.
For further information about team composition and how to take part in the next Project Management Competition in June 2015, please contact the EDP Team below. The competition is promoted throughout the year.
