BIG BANG FAIR Haywards Heath 30th June…

Account managers Lorraine and Erica will be attending the Big Bang Fair at the South of England showground on the 30th June where they will be working to attract the engineers of the future.  Over 7000 young people are expected to attend the event and take part in a world of hands-on activities stimulating their interest in many STEM subjects.  We will be asking young people to construct a wind turbine mast out of K’nex.  If successful they will be able to generate electricity to power a model house.

KENT CHOICES 4U - 25th - 26th March 2015

This prestigious event took place at the Kent Showground with Lorraine Kemp and Erica Barker from the ECITB manning the stand.  All were welcome to use their skills, using K'Nex, to build a wind turbine and there were many different, interesting designs.  Sharing the ECITB stand was Alstom Power who brought along their virtual welding simulator which was a very exciting addition to the hands-on events that were available.  Many young people who used the simulator were able to score their weld and compete with others.  Also joining Alstom were some apprentices who are currently undertaking their apprenticeship and also two ex-apprentices who have just come out of their time.  All this meant that young people who showed an interest in taking an ECITB apprenticeship were able to get first-hand information from those who know best about the apprenticeship process.

This event took place on the 4 & 5th March 2015 at the Norfolk Showground, Norwich.
This was the East of England Energy Group's flagship conference and brought together approximately 100 exhibitors from the energy industry and it's supply chain in the East of England.  ECITB was represented by Phil Jefferies (Regional Account Manager) and Matt Knights (Account Manager). This was one of EEEGR's biggest conferences and marked 50 years of the Oil and Gas industry in the Southern North Sea.

One the morning of the first day there was a dedicated skills session where you heard from keynote speakers involved in the skills agenda. After this there was a smaller breakout session where Phil Jefferies delivered a presentation on the skills issues within the Oil and Gas industry.

Lowestoft College Apprenticeship Market Place - The Apprenticeship Market Place is a yearly event held by Lowestoft College that sees up to 300 engineering students in attendance along with local employers who are looking for engineering apprentices.

Medway UTC's Half Term Hands-On Festival was intended to give those who have applied for Year 10 or Year 12 a real understanding of what they will be doing when they take up a place at Medway UTC in September 2015.

Partner companies, including the ECITB, were involved in the festival, so young people who have applied for a place would have a chance to find out more about the engineering construction industry as well as other types of engineering and construction and also take part in activities that reflect what the Medway UTC has to offer.

The event took place on the 18th February 2015, please follow links for further details.

Congratulations to those South East companies that have signed up to the ECITB Skills and Training Charter.  These companies were presented with their framed charters during 2014.  The Skills and Training Charter is an agreement that companies will work in partnership with the ECITB to ensure that there is ongoing planning and undertaking of training and upskilling within their organisation, enabling their workforce to have the skills and knowledge that they need to ensure the skills base of the engineering construction industry remains effective and competative within the global market.
